4/2/2017 0 Comments A Moment with MajoziFebruary is the month of love and I've decided to kick it off with showing you guys a little appreciation. Consider this exclusive interview a thank you for all the support thus far. South African indie-folk artist, Majozi, grew up in the sunny city of Durban. His natural love and talent for music led him to teach himself to play the guitar at thirteen years old. He studied jazz and popular music at the University of KwaZulu Natal.
He resides currently in Cape Town and perfectly fits the description of a "rising star". In part of his introduction for the interview, he said, "I love music, I love God, I love people…" which seems like the perfect combination for a grounded artist. My friend, Buhle, and I caught up with the singer. Vidal: What's it like being signed as a local artist? Majozi: It's a lot of fun. People think it's hard - it is hard. Everything is hard work if you really wanna pursue something. Anything that is worth the while is always hard. But because it's my passion and it's what I love, it's a little bit easier, you know? Vidal: At what age did you actually decide that you wanted to become a singer and an artist? Majozi: I think I always wanted to be an artist from a young age but I think it only became a reality when I was older. You know when you're young, people tell you you must be an accountant or a doctor? *Vidal laughs in agreement because this is literally so relatable* Don't listen to that man. You must be who you think you can be or what's inside of you. And if that's an accountant then you must be an accountant, but if that's a musician then you must be a musician, you know? There's a lot of people out there that don't realise that they don't have to live a life that everyone else needs to or everyone else wants to. The thing is - as long as you love people and you think outside of yourself. As long as what you're doing is more than just you as a person. Buhle: Are there any albums you'll be releasing anytime soon? Majozi: [This] year some time I'll be releasing stuff. Buhle: Any tours happening anytime soon? Majozi: Always touring, always touring. Just check out my Facebook - majozimusic, yeah check it out. It was a short and sweet interview and he was a kind and welcoming soul. It was nothing but a pleasure talking to him. He is an insanely talented man and I see a soaring future ahead of him. For more information on Majozi, go to his website: majozi.co.za
