31/8/2020 0 Comments August 2020 Movie/TV Round-UpWhat I watched this past month including American Psycho, Bojack Horseman and more! Bojack horseman (season 1 - 6)BoJack Horseman was the star of a popular 1990's sitcom. Now he spends his days binge drinking and contemplating his life and success in Hollywood (later Hollywoo). I was kind of sceptical of this show at first. I heard a lot about it from friends but didn't know if it would be something of interest to me. At the end, this has become one of my favourite shows because of it's wit, social criticism and dry humour. Each character serves such an important part of the narrative and has so much depth, even when appearing as shallow. Some episodes take on such unique formats and animation allowed the creators to explore addiction in a way that would probably be limited by live-action television. maniac (season 1)Two strangers meet at a pharmaceutical trial, with their lives and imaginations becoming intertwined. A beautiful visual experience. There were times where the plot seemed a bit interpretative but was very entertaining overall. I enjoyed the deadpan humour that balanced out the chaos and way-out aesthetics. If you're a fan of stunning set design and psychological dramas, this one is for you. american psycho (2000)Patrick Bateman works at a big company, with a good job, a cool apartment and a rigorous skincare routine. Although his peers all have similar things, Patrick is convinced he's far from regular. For me, what makes an excellent film is its ability to want you to watch it over and over, and I'll definitely be watching this one again. The film was adapted from a book which itself had an ambiguous ending. It's not quite clear at the end what actually happened or what we, as the audience, should believe, but I think that's what makes this film great. It's completely up to you what you think happened. the shining (1980)Jack and his family move into The Overlook Hotel to care for it over the long, cold winter months and the disturbing past of the place catches up with Jack. An icon in film for a reason. With some of the most recognisable scenes in movie history, this thriller keeps you on your toes with stunning visuals. The suspense and tension is built up slowly and by the end, you become immersed in the story and hoping the end is not too tragic. Written by: Vidal Thaver
